DAY 1: November 22, 1988: Kidnapped
Kept captive in house, and posed as one of boy’s girlfriend
Raped (over 400 times in total)
Forced to call her parents and tell them she had run away
Starved and malnutritioned
Fed cockroaches to eat and urine to drink
Forced to masturbate
Forced to strip in front of others
Burned with cigarette lighters
Foreign objects inserted into her vagina/anus

DAY 11: December 1, 1988: Severely beat up countless times
Face held against concrete ground and jumped on
Hands tied to ceiling and body used as a punching bag
Nose filled with so much blood that she can only breath through her mouth
Dumbbells dropped onto her stomach
Vomited when tried to drink water (her stomach couldn’t accept it)
Tried to escape and punished by cigarette burning on arms
Flammable liquid poured on her feet and legs, then lit on fire
Bottle inserted into her anus, causing injury

DAY 20: December10, 1989: Unable to walk properly due to severe leg burns
Beat with bamboo sticks
Fireworks inserted into anus and lit
Hands smashed by weights and fingernails cracked
Beaten with golf club
Cigarettes inserted into vagina
Beaten with iron rods repeatedly
Winter; forced outside to sleep in balcony
Skewers of grilled chicken inserted into her vagina and anus, causing bleeding

DAY 30: Hot wax dripped onto face
Eyelids burned by cigarette lighter
Stabbed with sewing needles in chest area
Left nipple cut and destroyed with pliers
Hot light bulb inserted into her vagina
Heavy bleeding from vagina due to scissors insertion
Unable to urinate properly
Injuries were so severe that it took over an hour for her to crawl downstairs and use the bathroom
Eardrums severely damaged
Extreme reduced brain size

DAY 40: Begged her torturers to “kill her and get it over with”

January 1, 1989: Junko greets the New Years Day alone
Body mutilated
Unable to move from the ground

DAY 44: January 4, 1989: The four boys beat her mutilated body with an iron barbell, using a loss at the game of Mah-jongg as a pretext. She is profusely bleeding from her mouth and nose. They put a candle’s flame to her face and eyes.

Then, lighter fluid was poured onto her legs, arms, face and stomach, and then lit on fire. This final torture lasted for a time of two hours.

Junko Furuta died later that day, in pain and alone. Nothing could compare 44 days of suffering she had to go through.

When her mother heard the news and details of what had happened to her daughter, she fainted. She had to undergo a psychiatric outpatient treatment . Imagine her endless pain.

Her killers are now free men. Justice was never served, not even after 20 years.
They deserve a punishment much greater than they had put upon Furuta, for putting an innocent girl through the most unbearable suffering.

This story from 1989 is true. Please spread her story around. Everyone should know about the existence of Junko Furuta’s unimaginable and incomprehensible suffering, and this is why this group has been made.

After school, I decided to stop by at a small night inn and got something to eat. It was a wet night in midst of the rainy season. I found a nice place for that. There were tables arranged, and you can find all kinds of fruits and dessert displaying in the food counter. I orderd a mixed fruit juice, and two eggs. It was raining lightly, though the weather had become like a cold winter night. 

I enjoyed the night food, watching as cars and people come across. Then I noticed something… of all the food sellers, there are women. I saw this old lady, alone, sitting in front of her food carriage with her hands busy slicing the meat and bread. And also the dessert seller is a young woman, perhaps even high schooler, along with her mother and sister. Then I would ask myself, “ Where are their husband and son?”

Taking another look at the old lady, I could have the feeling she resembles my mother in terms of appearance. My mother, thought healthy, has quite a record of some illnesses. From my eyes, I can understand that this old lady is probably having the same, if not all, sort of health problems. But what is she here all along in this wet night? How much does she earn per night to give her the courage to be here at this time of the day? What if her health started to go wrong? What if there’s criminal or gangsters challenge for her money? Who would help her? 

Life has exerted so much pressures that everyone needs to spare more time in order to make a living. These women might be enjoying their business, but they are also dedicating all of their works to their family. Working at nightime has never been a wish to everyone, as we come to understand the nature of human that we all need to rest when the sun sets. Then there is something, some storiest in their night quest when they decide to come here and do all these things. Such a love of the mother, a wife and sister, is so strong that they take the high risk of challenging the dark.

I’ve seen another similar stories in my daily life. I remembered back when I was travelling, I stopped by a traffic light, and I spotted three men. There is an old man, perhaps in his 60s, sitting half-naked, with only a pant. I know he is a bike’s tired repairer. The other middle-age man, have his motorbike parked nearby, and it seems he is a motor taxi driver. And then the youngest man, he has some items near his feet, and I could tell that he’s a street merchant. There would be nothing special about them, but then, all of sudden, they all took out their food box and began to eat in front of the whole public, as if they are sitting in their dining room and no one else is there. The two younger men would not be a good case, but the older man is such a case. Again I asked myself “ Where are all his children? Why are they leaving him behind like this? What kind of responsibility does he has that make him endure all of these things?”

During my trip to Kep, Kampot, I stopped by a place to buy some fruits. In my car there were 4 people, and 3 of them went out to bargain the price. They were arguing the price by stating that the fruit is not really in good state. Then, a very old lady, perhaps in her 70s, spoke out “ They are all good fruit. I’m old and I don’t lie” . I assumed she was a family of the fruit seller. I didn’t care much about her presence. But while my car’s window is still opened, she approached, and offered me her “ baked bean” … “ Please help buy some! 1 pack for 500riel only. I’ve got no children and grandchildren, this is my only way of living.” I was actually stunned for 5 secs. She was holding 2 packs, then I handed her 1000 riel without even knowing it. She kept smiling and thanked me… and walked away… alone. Then I came to realize… SHIT! I should have bought more… she’s not the fruit seller’s family. Well! She could not be found after that, then I drove back to Phnom Penh. 

Tonight I attended a wedding party at Koh Pich, and I was shown to all-gentlemen table. Sitting next to me, is a soldier. He always push me to drink some wine, which I accepted. We drank, but we did not talk much. However, near the end, he began to converse more seriously, asking where I work. I told him about my company, and then he said “ I knew, this is not appropriate to say. But I have a son, he just graduated from NUM and he is looking for a job. I just hope that if your company is recruiting new staff, I hope that you can let my son know and get him to apply. May I give you my number so that you can contact me?” . At first I was hestitated. But then I took out my phone and wrote down his number. To me, if this is the best thing a father can do for his son, then I would gladly help.

When I kept on thinking, I turned back to myself. “ Then what am I doing? isn’t my parent supposed to be waiting?” Of course they do. Surely, my family is awaiting my return eagerly.

New Year is coming, and I believe that we’ve got someone who is waiting for us to visit them, or hope that we will spend time with them. Such an ocassion must not be allowed to fade away without certain devotion. As a filial and faithful, would you rather be somewhere else, and let your family face the wind of change alone? If there is something you can do, what would you do for them, as a gift for a new year?

There is always a room for those appreciations. Coming to think about our journey of life, we have gone through many places, meet many people and done many things. Yet sometimes we don’t give credit to some particular things that we ignore its value, which in truth it is the catalyst of a great moment of your life. Taking in example of your graduation day, for 4 years in University, there are those days which you were superb in class, and those days when you were like an alien in the slum. But wasn’t it because of those days that make your graudation days even more meaningful? Thus you will never know whether the day you called it “ a bad day” would turn to be “ an awesome day” for you in the next 10 years.

In my personal experience, there are many things that I engage, from socializing to social media, from music to sport, from person to person, from place to place. I grew up playing tennis, on every weekend when I have time, I would ride 20 minutes from my home to play at the stadium. I spend up to 30 minutes hitting ballsl against the wall. Then I would lay on the ground enjoying the heaven Sky for some minutes, before traveling back home. I don’t need to play with anyone to keep me at tennis, all I need to do is keep hitting the ball.

Talking about music, I began to play Organ since I was in grade 4. I only could play one song at that moment. When I reached grade 12, I began my life with guitar. At that time, the only song that I could play is “ អានី​” which I performed during my 17th birthday to my classmates. 2 years later, I still was not a professional, but my friend invited me to perform on a stage at one university. I agreed on the basis that I would have a partner there. I played with him on that day in front of 500 people wearing a nervous look on my face, but my hands were doing a different job. After all, I was relief when the song was over and I returned home a normal boy.

In socializing both in real and online world, I have been involving in many causes. Started off with Cambodia Forum, I found pleasure in Online Foruming, Blogging and Social Media Networking. In Cambodia forum in particular (old one of course, the new one is http://www.camboforums.com), I took part in a conversation and discussion on various topic, even about politics, relationship, or other general thing. I learned a lot from this forum because I took the opportunity to explore more about the world. It was this forum where I substantially improve my English.

In blogging, I am running 3 blogs. In my personal blog (http://www.samsokrith.wordpress.com) I blogged about random things that is not considered a hot topic. In most blogs, you would find hot political or social content, but I choose to blog about a smaller but simpler thing which would be bring a different angle of life. In AseanClan blog, (http://www.aseanclan.blogspot.com) I am inspired to bring the awareness of this regional integration movement and wish to deliver a strong message to all ASEAN citizens. Last of all, my mini blog (http://denith.tumbler.com) is where I post a picture and various topic concerning the appreciation of life.

The list is just a relavation of what we can enjoy in life. How about you? What are the things that you enjoying doing the most? Whether it is riding under the sun, or visiting a beautiful garden full of flowers, or go shopping with your bestie? Life is such a gift, it gives you 24 hours per day. When you find a true pleasue in those hours, there will be a magic surrounding you, and you will never ever forget that moment. Now, what do you say?
